Im bored and need more reading material so I need suggestions on books. I dont like normal books though lol. Im known for reading things most people are forced to read in school or book people have never heard of. I love classics and poetry. So any suggestions would be great.


List of books that I like:

Divine comedy
The Republic
Necronomicon
Lesser Key of Solomon
Malleus Malifacarum (almost done with this)
Harry Potter (everyone loves it. if you dont your a hippie-nazi)
Shakespeare (some of its crap some are good)
Edger Allen Poe (omg he's awesome!)
Shogun
Metamorphis


Anyone got any good books they know of?

Heh, I almost bought Dune tonight at the book store but then I saw Dave Eggers had a new(ish) book out so I got that instead - How We are Hungry.

I didn't know if Dune would be very good vacation reading either ;p

Dune's better than most people suspect. Largely because of the million follow ups that get progressively lamer. The last good book in the series is Children of Dune. And even that gets kinda weak towards the end.

The Once and Future King was, indeed, a very good book. Especially if you like Arthurian legend.

The reason this book doesn't get the rep it deserves is, honestly, due to Disney. The Sword in the Stone animated film was based off of the young Arthur in The Once and Future King, in fact, they practically took that movie word-for-word from the book.

So lots of kids would see that film, and then read the book, expecting all happiness and wackiness and just an all-around good time to be had by all...

And then T.H. White finally got into the REAL Arthurian legend stuff. For a while, sure, it was fine...

I don't know if you've seen the movie Excalibur, but if you have, try to remember the section where everyone was out hunting for the holy grail, and how depressing and just plain dark that whole time was.

That's part of The Once and Future King, a MAJOR part, in fact, it's practically 1/4 of the book.

It's a very, very dark story. Especially if you read The Book of Merlin afterwards, which is the last few chapters of The Once and Future King as T.H. White intended them to be.

It is NOT a happy ending.

I just recently started reading "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star." Not becuase of the sex, or the drugs, or the naked boobie pictures. The biography is pretty interesting though.

My first list had a bit of everything on it, but yea, I'm an uber book nerd. I probably own about 300 books :P

Rein, you're absolutely right. Dune was good, the rest of the trilogy is decent, though not great, and all the other ones I've read stink. I haven't bothered reading most of them.

My sister just started reading a very Dune-esque series, lots of intrigue and obscure references, but I forgot to write down the name and I'm holding out until I go visit her so I can borrow it :D
