First of all, understand my perspective. The entirety of my comments IN THE GAME at Nidhogg was limited to "I'll withhold my judgement on this until people are coolheaded enough for the truth to come out." or something to that effect. The entirety of my comments on the original thread regarding this situation was basically a congratulations to FS. I think FS did well, bad luck on that last Flail, but whatever. If I were head of a linkshell, and I had been in Arthars place, I would have given the loot up as well. The same can't be said of many people posting here, both FS and CKD... I can count the number of truly kind players on this server on one... nah, actually, it takes two hands, but still, you get the point.
I'm sure some people are going to say, sure, whatever, Aalan is just saying that because he's CKD and he's trying to make CKD look better, no way he would give up the loot... And I expect them to, and I understand and forgive them for thinking that way. I know they're wrong, and that's enough for me.
This game would be a much nicer place if the kind people were in charge of the LSes. We'd have some understanding, then. We'd have people in charge who understand that it is human nature to jump to conclusions, that it is human nature to make assumptions and to fly off the handle when tempers are hot. We understand and forgive when people say mean and nasty things in the heat of the moment.
Some things were said by CKD members at the close of the Nidhogg incident that I wish hadn't been said. But I can't in good conscience EXPECT anything different than what happened. Nor should any of you. Shame on anyone who says otherwise; it just shows that you don't have any more of an understanding of the situation than those CKD members did.
Try, if you will, to see things from their perspective. For just a moment at least. Keep in mind that CKD has a history with KFC and Arthars. You may say it's bogus, that the things we say about KFC are completely untrue, but remember, those CKD members BELIEVE those things, they believe them with all of their being. It doesn't matter what you think about it, it's what THEY think that you need to consider here.
So, here's the perspective of CKD at the end of Nidhogg:
1.) Nidhogg = a sliver of health so small that the only way I can tell Nidhogg is still alive is that his name is still in purple.
2.) Arthars = Chainspell.
3.) Nidhogg = Spike Flail.
4.) Almost everyone in the pit = dead. This includes FS and CKD, KFC was too far away for me to say if many, if any, of them died.
5.) Arthars claims and kills Nidhogg.
OKAY, NOW WAIT! Think about what we're seeing here, as CKD. We dislike KFC with a passion, for our own reasons. Lets say that YOU, the READER, dislikes KFC as well. Remember, you're supposed to be trying to see this from our perspective, so you have to try and keep in mind that we don't like KFC, and we REALLY don't like Arthars.
What we saw was our hated enemy steal Nidhogg from a fellow NA linkshell, and land a single killing blow. As you might imagine, this got many of us rather incensed, and that really shouldn't come as any surprise. All we knew was that KFC was hovering like a flock of vultures over Nidhogg, and bam, just after a fellow NA linkshell was smacked by Spike Flail, Arthars pounced. We were understandably pissed. Our enemy had one-upped not just us, but another group of NAs. To expect CKD to be anything but pissed in that moment is folly.
So, now we're already pissed off. Then people start saying that FS **asked** Arthars to kill it. Now, as a person ALREADY in a foul mood over Arthars having killed Nidhogg, to hear that a fellow NA linkshell **asked** him to do it, thereby betraying the NA community, was really a proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Remember, it doesn't matter if you, the reader, personally believe that this action amounted to FS having betrayed the NA community. CKD members felt that way, and that's what matters, since we're here to understand WHY certain people reacted the way they did.
So, now we've gone from being disgusted with Arthars for having stolen Nidhogg, to having a fellow NA linkshell betray the NA community by **asking** Arthars to steal Nidhogg. From one insult to another, so to speak. To expect anything from a human being other than rage and hotheadedness in that moment is to ignore common human nature. The vast majority of people on this Planet Earth do not possess the self-control to hold themselves back in such a moment, so it really shouldn't come as any surprise that certain people acted the way they did. Especially when those people supposedly have, as some in this thread have said, a reputation for being hotheaded to begin with.
Should those things have been said? No.
Should we try to be the better man, so to speak, and forgive people for speaking out of an emotional state of mind when they weren't in possession of the full array of facts? Yes.
Should we stop trying to mimic politicians, they way they respond to mudslinging with more mudslinging? Yes.
What I'm asking here is for both sides of this to give the other some quarter. Show a little understanding. Show a little of that long-lost kindness that it is so abysmally rare to find in this era of humanity.
Of course... I don't really hold out any hope of anyone really listening to me. When people are mad, they usually don't want to listen to reason. They don't want to calm down, they want to vent their frustrations.
But I damn sure do wish they wouldn't.
