so I succumed to the dark side and bought this, and wow so far its actually been pretty fun. Just wondering if anyone else was playing.

For those of you who don't know guild wars is an MMORPG with no monthly fee that was released just last friday (4/29/05) cost is right at 50 for the game though (typical new game fee I think).

(I dont think Guild Wars is a MMORPG)

But I will be trying this out soon once I import it, or wait a few months before some computer shop owner decides to import it to Thailand.

not to sound like a complete jerk or anything but yeah its an MMORPG.

Unless a game where you party with hundreds of other people online to go out and complete quests/level up doesn't count as one anymore....

I thought it wasnt the traditional MMORPG? That you select your party in town base but you go off and EXP/Adventure/whatever in "rooms" or servers that nobody else can go in, unless your PVPing. So you wont meet anyone outside the towns other then people in your own party / opposing party?

Hmm guess I should have clarified some, and first off let me apologize for being a bit rude before, it was late and I was tired >.<

Yes, Porodox you are correct. Everytime you leave towns you recieve your own "world" to play in (either just for you if you soloing, or for the party you formed in town). However believe it r not it really doesn't cut down on the feel of the game very much at all. Just think of it like your on FFXI really late at night and all the good camp spots are open for your party.

My biggest complaint at this point in the game is party formation, you have to actually run around and find the person youwant to invite, select them and manually invite them. Makes me really wish for a seek feature.

As to Ponuh and the PvP system, it has come a looooooong way from beta (as all good games should I suppose). Though I must admit I still have not participated in it all that much personally as i've never been to much of a pvp'er. (for those of you who are you have the alternative of making a character specifically for pvp - starts at max lvl but can only particpate in pvp battles, this allows you to jump into the action right away. however you'll still need a regular character to advance through the game)

All in all I enjoy the game and it does exactly the job I ask it to do, give me an alternative for when I experience FFXI "burnout", which I'm rather prone to after a bit

It's as MMORPG as PSO or Diablo. It's a social party world, no where near mass.

I miss FFXI =( .
A few questions.

Is Guild War's economy as player driven as FFXI?
How long would it take for you to get to Lvl 20, playing everyday for about 8 hours (Muaha)
And finally, does it still have "Adventure" feeling, being able to visit new lands, in a vast world? Does the Guild War world give you the chance to get lost ini it?

Adressing questions:

A.) Is Guild War's economy as player driven as FFXI?

In a nut shell, no. At least not in the early game (from what I can tell anyway...I'm only about mid lvl so far my self), later on getting better gear requires collecting various components (which is given to npcs along with a small fee to "craft" your gear for you) so you see much more marketing going on (the is a chat channel specificlly for market use)

B.) How long would it take for you to get to Lvl 20, playing everyday for about 8 hours

Honestly I have no idea on this one I can tell you that each lvl is about twice as hard to get as the one before it (so far) and getting to lvl 10 took me about 3.5 hours (did various quests and killing en masse).

But I will say this...getting to lvl 20 is not the end all be all of this game. The game is very much more depentdant on the skills you aquire rather than what lvl you are, and collecting all the skills could take forever as you have to complete quests/purchase from trainers all over the world to get them (see next question)

C.) And finally, does it still have "Adventure" feeling, being able to visit new lands, in a vast world?

When you first start you enter into a world that while very shiny, you can explore the entire limits in about 6 hours of randomly wandering. Not bad, but not great either. Then about half way through you realize, "well crap...this is just the tutorial" and then you enter the real game. (at least this is what happened to me, but then again I started up when the game did so no one knew any different)

Once you enter into the real game world you discover thast all the area you had dsicovered before makes up only one kingdom out of about 6, plus various smaller side areas. Looking at the map fully zoomed out can be very humbling. I haven't done much exploring yet, (its next on my list to do) but if we assume that the areas are all the same size as the first one I'd say its probably about equal to FFXI in world size, possibly bigger.

Hopefully I have answered your questions for you. (if not let me know and i'll try to elaborate more) All in all I very much enjoy the game and its been worth every penny I paid for it. Hopefully if you buy it you'll feel the same. (if you do look me up, my main character [you can have up to 4] is name Vellan Arendar. Feel free to send me a whisper anytime.

PS if you want I'll try and snap some screenshots to post so you can see some of the areas (though I do warn you, I do not run anywhere near the max resolution as my computer hasn't been top of the line for about 4 years)

I play Guild wars and i find it to be a lot of fun(still havnt done pvp yet). I got to level 20 in about 110 hours of play time but i took a few shortcuts and did it via storyline.Game progresses a lot form level 20. Collecting armor is a time sink but not nearly as tedius as most games. They limit item dependency to make it easier for balance.Skill collecting is a major part of the pve game and kinda has a pokemon "gotta catch them all feel" to it. Storyline so far isnt bad either with a few twists and some neat events.Char balance so far seems to be quite well done theres a counter for everything. And as of currently its quite massive people wise (reported at a million people worldwide)

I also play Guild Wars, look for Vash (yea, highly over used name. I was bored, and not creative).

Wow. You really got the name "vash" out of a million people? There are no servers, right?

I don't like that no servers thing nor the instance zones for just you. Me and my friend during beta spent 30 minutes looking for each other... "Dude, I'M AT THE FUCKING FOUNTAIN. WHERE ARE YOU?" Until we realized I was in 15 and he was in 22 or something. That gave me a bad taste. However, the mission I ran with my ranger was fun :P. Maybe I'll give GW a try for the times i'm not doing anything in WoW.

yeah thats basically what i'm using it for Ponuh, its great as a "filler" game for when I just have a little time or am fed up with other stuff.

Don't get me wrong its still an awesome game. But I don;t know how long it would keep me involved if it was all I played
