in your results how does int, elemental magic skill, and magic attack + all fair against eachother, and which are mroe important as you start to grind through your 70s and at 75. Mostly, I'm wondering how to equip myself between a few pieces of gear, for example you have the new yigit turban, which stats are:

Mind +4
Magic Attack Bonus +2
Enmity -5
MP Regeneration While Healing +1

vs. wizard's petasos:

MP +25
Intelligence +4
Resist vs. Lightning +10
Enmity -4

I understand there are other things to factor in, over which is more benficial like the mp regen while resting and -enmity. but just isolating magic attack + 2 vs. int +4, which would be the better choice for overall damage added to your nukes/mb?

Another comparison would be af hands: elemental magic skill + vs. genie/igqira/zenith mitts: magic attack +, and genie/igqira weskit: magic attack +, and elemental magic skill + vs. errant hpl.: int +. I'm sure some combination of all, and possible equip change macros are involved to really maximize damage and decrease resists, just wondering what you guys have found works best.

thanks

Magic Attack, I think, takes precedence over all over BLM stats. Go with the turban, the hMP is a nice bonus. I dunno though, ask Tomake, or his sexy lover Deadlegend.

i go like this:

High LV stuff (Sky/Gods)

Elementhal Skill > MAB > INT

EXP

MAB > INT > Skill

buy some HMP gear to swap in (you should have atleast 2 resting macros including swapping etc)

if you have any more questions, ill happily answer including gear setups etc. ive taken a big interest in blm

Get everything.
Sell nothing.
Create macros.
Merit ele skill.
Merit thunder power.
Merit Ice power.
Don't be a jerkoff.
Merit HP and Enmity+ if you want to be cool like me.

Keep the errant coat for enmity- nuking(when you're sure you won't be resisted, or if somebody needs a cure). Damage is a little lower than weskit but nothing crazy.

Really if you just want to see the biggest damage possible, max out the mab. Your base int and coincidental int gear, along with power merits make enough of a base so that mab or % boosts aren't a waste.

In a long fight, or a fight with fewer blms than you'd like to have, each blm is getting more hate than they would in a better set up fight, since each blm is accounting for a greater % of the total damage. Really in the end you're gonna get hate no matter what, so don't be a dick, don't create any more hate than you have to, if the fight's set up right (I mean like hnm crap) then you should have a fast enough skillchain or pair of skillchains so you have SC often enough to satisfy what bloodlust you may have, and on something like faf/nid, w/e, anything where you revolve around a skillchain, there's no reason to nuke outside of it, unless the fight is just about over, or you have to make a desperate final blitz to zerg out the last 20% with 5 minutes til zerk mode(remember the motherfucking alamo). If your DDs are good, the skillchains will come commonly enough. If you're fighting nidhogg, and you get hate, and you're a taru(or if he used the unnamed SP), you are most likely gonna die right then and there, and once you're up, you're gonna continue getting eaten by wing if he's not all the way on the other side of the place. So /shutdown before you get hate. What I'm saying is, burst2 is really fun, but there's no need to deal 2k+ on every friggin sc, mab+59786295 is cool, but depending on your tanks you might not live through very many skillchains doing that. You have an hour to kill, don't need to rush. BLM going for epenis damage and dying without anybody to swap in can (and has very recently for your ls) caused losses. Believe it or not, you have the choice to hold back on damage. Sometimes you have to let the tanks tank.

Elemental skill on gear is kinda not needed besides incidentals when you have it fully merited. Only king I see resist on is nid. Kirin is an asshole, and does not count. Buy a bard, make it play threnody. On iceday you can get 353 ele skill fairly easily(unless you tossed your fucking ice ring thinking you could get another), but situations where that would be necessary are kinda rare. HQ igqira hands are pretty cool, good power and skill. If I need more skill, usually I just change into af gloves. I still have druid's slops and elite beret but I never nuke with them because they have no enmity-.

but wtf am I rambling about

yigit turban vs wizard petasos, I don't play assault so eff you
I like enmity- on blm, the longer you're up, the more damage you can do. I still use lolaf2 boots over rostrum in most situations(sold my mithra rse boots for tutelary, breaking rule#2) just for enmity-2. The damage on yigit/af hats is probably similar to each other anyway, so yigit might be a better choice.

and wtf
don't even bother worrying about gear to wear in exp because we don't get parties anymore, besides the blm duo/trio on pudding/wamoura.

Level paladin. It's scientifically proven to be 1000x as fun as blm, most people easily distinguish between a shitty one and a good one, it gets much cooler looking gear, and it is the only job in the game that learns the super cool ws Swift Blade.

yeah, Dead has some nice info for you Jim. You can also read up on other well-known ffxi forums and see what players there have to say from first hand experience.

Ultimately, you kind of have to decide for yourself how important BLM is to you. If you decide to merit some BLM specific skills, some gear might not become as important. I think you will need to experiment on your own to see what works best for you for whatever situation you are in.

sry if you dont have novio earring u arent good

omg jk

Um yeah, I usually go for MAB as much as possible, then Int, then w/e would make me nuke harder, i try to get as much elemental magic+ (got that merited also) as possible but i dont usually get resisted on stuff that isnt fafnir (hardly get resisted on nukes and MBs anymore) or wyrms

im 5/5 thunder merits, and working on burst 2 now

I know you're just screwing around, because we are buddies, but I'm gonna have to be a dick and ask you how much first-hand experience you have with fafnir/nidhogg/aspi/kb, even though I know the answer.

Also, Swift Blade rocks your socks, along with Savage Blade, Ground Strike, and Retribution; Paladin has access to all the coolest weapon skills :D (but no steel cyclone or impulse drive ; ;)

On topic, I admit I am a fairly conservative blm(oh and my damage blows because I put all my money into paladin haha). Find yourself a balance between Tomake and I and you'll have solid results and minimal exp loss.

Also, if you don't know how the elemental debuff reel works by now, quit blm and smash your computer/ps2 into little pieces. They're friggin never used in endgame, but goddammit, they're the basis for the way the elements(and thus, black mages) work. lol

I admit I Maybe used to overnuke...however usually at fafnir or something i tend to conserve, like one of the fafnirs Atariii got recently, i did an ES Burst II for like 1561 damage and didnt take hate at all, I usually just do thunder III before i do T4 MB or AM2...Besides Fafnir/kings, etc, I usually just nuke to finish things off.

get bard songs for double int and put rest of your gear to skill and mab and enmity down. imo any piece of gear that adds just int is a bit of a waste, but sometimes theres not much else (rings I remember)

i suppose deads advice is pretty sound about enmity, as he has to play two jobs that revolve around it in different ways so listen to him

lol.... I was just shittin with you dead lol.

and so what if I didn't do much king camping the last couple months I played....

bet you can't tell me what the most needed job is for dynamis lord (other than rdm/drk). \:D/

........ Buuuut back on topic, I think what is the resounding thing that's coming out of this thread is to know your hate level as blm. Gear is great and grand and all, but as a blm you should watch your hate level more so than worry about your gear. I'm not saying that blms can run around in absolutely nothing like a brd can, but I am saying that a blm should be more concerned about how much hate they have vs. worrying about what gear they should be using.

100% situational endgame. Just exp'n to endgame get the most mab gear/int gear( mab > int). There really are a shitton of options once you get 75. and even more choices to make depending on what mob you are fighting. Dead pretty much summed it up eventhough i didnt read the whole post. Drunk again wooohooo. Have fun dying alot, i mean playing blm during drawn out fights ;p

Question: why is puppetmaster such a cool class with the most retarded name ever and the WORST JESUS CHRIST HORRID AF ever? It'd be more popular if it was "engineer" or "Tek Knight" (which is what it really is) and had rad robot armor AF
