I gave in and bought this. I have no idea what the f im suppose to be doing.
Quick Start Guide1)
Gather wood. You start with an Axe, find some trees and chop them down. Stand next to a tree with the Axe selected and hold your mouse button over the base of the tree until it collapses. Gather several trees but try not to stray too far away from your spawn point. You will need a lot of wood to start with, in the hundreds if possible. But if you run out of wood at any point below just go and gather more trees.
2)
Build a shelter. Use the wood you gathered to build a basic shelter. Simply select the wood and start dragging your mouse around near your character to place the wooden blocks. Try and make an enclosed space on a nice flat piece of ground. Make the wall as high as it will go without having to jump.
3)
Make a crafting table. Hit escape to open your inventory and crafting menu, on the bottom left, select a Crafting Table (it uses some of your wood) and place it onto your hotbar. Select the crafting table on your hotbar and click on the ground near you to place it.
4)
Make a sword. You should hopefully have enough wood left over to make a sword. While standing next to your new crafting table, you'll have more crafting options available on your escape menu, one should be a sword. Click it and drop it on your hotbar. You should have less trouble with the monsters now.
5)
Make doors. Use the crafting table and make two doors, and put them on your hotbar. Use your axe to cut a 3-block-high hole in either side of your shelter. With the doors selected on your hotbar, click in the empty spaces left behind and the door should fit. Right click the door to open and close it. Although monsters will pound on your doors, they cannot open them except on Blood Moons.
6)
Make torches. Hopefully you've killed a few slimes by now, if not, kill a couple. The slime gel they drop is required to make torches. Once you have some slime gel, use the crafting menu to make a bunch of torches and drop them in your hot bar. Place the torches on the walls of your shelter so that you'll be able to see at nighttime.
7)
Finish the shelter. Finally, craft lots of an item called "Wood Wall". This is a background. You can place them as a back wall to your shelter, and this has the important task of preventing monsters from spawning inside your house and also classifies it as indoors so NPCs are allowed to move in.
8)
Add Furniture. Use the crafting table to make an ordinary table and a chair. Adding both of these to your shelter will make your new shelter into a "house". This will allow NPCs to move in and occupy it. Your very first house will be automatically taken by the Guide, you should see him wander in after a while. Making more houses (or adding rooms to your current house) will allow more NPCs to move in.
Now you have a shelter to stay inside when you need peace from the constant stream of monsters spawning day and night.
What Next1)
Make a Hammer. If you haven't already, make a Hammer at your crafting table. You'll need one to smash Life Crystals, and it's also used for picking up and destorying objects you can't with your axe/pickaxe (such as the wood walls and furniture).
2)
Explore. Go find some caves and see if you can find anything. Don't be too afraid to die, all you'll lose is 50% of your currently carried coins. You won't drop anything else. The deeper you get inside a cave the more likely you are to run into chests (with loot) or heart crystals (increase your maximum HP). Make sure you bring lots of torches with you.
3)
Find Ore and Stone. You should try to find some ore, such as Copper, Iron or Gold. You'll need these made into bars and you can start making better tools and weapons. Once you're in a large cave, try digging into dead-ends and see if you hit another cave. Stone is also handy as you can make better houses with it. You'll need a furnace to smelt ore, you can make one for back home using Stone and Torches.
4)
Improve Your House. You need to extend your house eventually. Either make additional rooms to your current one or make a new building. Same rules as before: enclosed space with light, a back wall, a door, a table, and a chair. If you have a second house/room and 50 silver coins, a
Merchant will move in for you to buy/sell things from.
5)
Upgrade. Once you start collecting copper, iron and gold, you can start smelting them into new armor and equipment. You'll need an Anvil to make most metal weapons and armor. You can craft these using Iron Bars or buy one from the merchant for 50 silver. Use your new stuff to make deeper mines to get better ores (like Gold).
That should be enough to get you started and well on your way.
